Media industry digitalization challenges information security
Sanoma Group has selected Nixu as its global cybersecurity partner.
Sanoma Group aims at being a trusted and responsible operator in the media industry, emphasizing solid information security and data protection practices across all group functions. The group's business is undergoing a major transition, and the goal right now is to build group-wide information security solutions which, unlike traditional solutions, will not slow down the business but instead serve and support it even through the change.
Sanoma selected the Finnish Nixu as its cybersecurity partner. With its extensive cybersecurity service portfolio and ability to support Sanoma's subsidiaries outside Finland, Nixu was a perfect fit for Sanoma's global needs.
The newly-concluded cooperative agreement includes the services of the Nixu Security Engineering team, allowing Sanoma to utilize the team’s technical capabilities in incorporating cybersecurity and data protection in conjunction with service development. Other services include Nixu’s vulnerability management and the Threat Intelligence service, providing proactive protection against cyber attacks.
Digitalization is an unstoppable force, penetrating all sectors and revolutionizing business environments across the board. It drives social development just like the industrial revolution did. As new business opportunities manifest themselves, so do the information security risks involved. Digitalization has especially affected the media industry, where shrinking revenues from print media are forcing even the most traditional operators to rethink their strategy. There are two options: to fight at the forefront or be left behind. New industry operators and rapidly developing technological opportunities, such as virtual reality, will completely reshape the playing field. To be able to survive and stay in the winning team, media companies must constantly, and at an increasing rate, introduce new digital services in the marketplace.
“As a major media industry operator, Sanoma has stood at the forefront and capitalized on the opportunities provided by digitalization, while seeing how critical information security and cyber threats are for reputation management, smooth business operations as well as for enabling growth. Nixu’s agility and expertise in different areas of information security are a perfect answer to the requirements of Sanoma’s fast-paced development”, says Kai Taka-Aho, Chief Technology Officer at Sanoma.
Nixu’s Chief Commercial Officer Valtteri Peltomäki: “As the society as a whole is becoming increasingly digital, the traditional information security, which relies on antivirus software and firewalls, is no longer sufficient for controlling the ever-increasing cyber risks. When it comes to digitalization, Sanoma group’s uncompromising efforts in information security are a testament to its pioneering spirit. We are very happy to be able to provide Sanoma with a comprehensive selection of cybersecurity services for protecting their business. We want to be a true cybersecurity partner for Sanoma, allowing them to implement new digital services and ensure their availability safely despite the cyber threats.”
