Nixu's oldest employee

1988

Company was established by Pekka Nikander. The name “Nixu” derives from his family name, the Unix operating system and the computer student lab of the Helsinki University of Technology nicknamed “Niksula” where Mr. Nikander worked while studying.

1989

Nixu organizes a virus seminar as a prelude to information security business.

1990

Nixu was pioneering the TCP/IP march by helping customers in Internet based email systems.

1994

Full blown commercial ISP platform delivery to Telecom Finland, today called TeliaSonera. Nixu developed several generations of this platform and administered DNS service until 1998.

1996

First release of Namesurfer product for DNS administration. Ericsson a new customer.

1997

Nixu establishes Nokia as a new customer.

1998

Contract to implement and operate the super-node, international gateways and management systems of the national Internet for KACST in Saudi Arabia. Country organization established.

1999

Nixu acquired NetPeople Oy.

2000

Acquisition of Magic Cookie Oy and Datatieto Oy. Nixu Middle East FZ-LLC established and registered in Dubai Internet City.

2004

Nixu developed new mobile service for operators and service providers, showcased in 3GSM Conference in Cannes, France.

2006

Namesurfer product and business spin-off acquired by Nixu Software Oy. Nixu validated as a PCI data security standard auditor by MasterCard and Visa.

2008

Nixu focuses on stronger growth in its main businesses areas and sells its Middle East operations to two private entrepreneurs.

2009

New office - Nixu moves from Helsinki, Käpylä to new, more secure premises in Keilaranta, Espoo
